English version at the bottom
Il y a un an, poussé par une épidémie et la fermeture des frontières, je fuyais la Floride, quittais Susan et revenais prématurément en France. Il y a déjà et seulement un an.
Depuis nous avons découvert les joies et misères du confinement, nous avons observé les succès et échecs des différentes méthodes de gouvernement. Et lorsque les bonnes méthodes sont mises en œuvre, de véritables succès apportent de véritables solutions. L’arrivée du vaccin en moins d’une année, l’amélioration des procédures de distribution en sont la preuve. Le Small Government, le laisser faire promu par Reagan/Thatcher, ne pouvaient participer efficacement à la solution du problème posé. Cela dit, ni une dictature, ni une autocratie, toutes deux aveugles ou simplement allergiques aux directions indiquées par la science, ne pouvaient réussir non plus.
Il y a un an, je prévoyais retourner en Floride pour assister à la chute du clown de la Maison Blanche. Objectivement, ma prédiction relevait d’un optimisme démesuré, le clown a été battu mais j’ai assisté à sa chute hors des US. Pour la nouvelle année, avec Susan, nous avons émis le souhait de nous retrouver pour la mi-avril. Malgré l’amélioration de la situation, ce souhait risque, lui aussi, de ne pas se réaliser. Toutefois, avec l’accélération des vaccinations, la mienne est prévue en milieu de semaine prochaine, le retour vers une vie quasi normale se rapproche.
Ensemble croisons les doigts pour que ce Blog redevienne un journal de voyage, de joies familiales partagées, du bonheur cosmopolite d’un couple bi national de p’tits-vieux heureux.
A year ago, driven by an epidemic and the closing of the borders, I fled Florida, left Susan and returned way too early to France. It was only a year ago.
Since we discovered the joys and miseries of Lock-Down, we have observed the successes and failures of the different methods of government. And when the right methods are implemented, real successes bring solutions. The arrival of the vaccine in less than a year, the improvement of distribution procedures are proof of this. The Small Government, as promoted by Reagan/Thatcher, could not participate effectively in the solution of the current problem. That said, neither a dictatorship nor an autocracy, both blind and allergic to the directions indicated by science, could succeed either.
A year ago, I was planning to return to Florida wishing to witness the fall of the White House Pinocchio. Pinocchio lost but I could not cheer in Florida. Objectively, my prediction was one of excessive optimism. For the New Year, with Susan, we have expressed the wish to meet again by mid-April. Despite the improvement of the situation, this wish too may not be realized. However, with the acceleration of vaccinations, mine is expected in the middle of next week, the return to an almost normal life is approaching.
Let’s cross our fingers so that this Blog becomes again a travel diary, of shared family joys, of the cosmopolitan happiness of a bi-national couple of happy little-old folks.
